Conceptualizing the project.
Syrian Refugee Initiative
Volunteer + Member at Boston Society of Architects
April 2017- August 2017
Scope: The Syrian Refugee Initiative addresses a need for child focused public space to help improve the quality of life and livelihood for Syrian refugee families, who have relocated to Lebanon, as well as their local neighbors. This project allows for the design and construction of the public space adjacent to the Dalhamiyeh Learning Center in the Beqaa Valley.
At the surface level, this project claims to build a playground for children and their families, in actuality, it is a step forward in developing a collaborative and community participatory design process for introducing child- centered spaces in the refugee context.
My Role: I volunteered in the early stages this project through planning and organizing the charrettes with members of the Boston Society of Architects. As the project moved forward I collaborated with several design professionals with conceptualizing ideas through researching precedents, visual diagramming and mind mapping. Through this process my team and I were able to develop a series of iterations that allowed us to use deductive reasoning on the designs that were successes vs. failures.
