Site Location: South End, Boston, MA
Scope: As cities are attracting more people while housing shortages are becoming obstacles to growth, maximizing density in the urban core seems to provide a solution. However, there are strong oppositions to changing existing zoning to allow higher density developments. Yet “density” remains a vague and confusing idea to most people.
This studio explored the correlation between density levels to built forms, with the goal to “visualize” density and use this as a tool for exploring this vexing question— how dense is too dense?
